  18. The information presented in this Technical Information sheet is
  19. designed to provide specific step-by-step installation procedures
  20. for installing Quattro Pro (v2.0) on a Novell network.
  21.  
  22.  
  23.    1.  Create all basic directories BEFORE installing.    The
  24.        necessary directories are:
  25.  
  26.         P:\ ─────┐
  27.              │
  28.            QPRO
  29.              ├─── FONTS
  30.              ├─── RESC
  31.              ├─── DATA
  32.              └─── USER1
  33.  
  34.        It is not essential that user directories be created at
  35.        this time and they do not have to be located within the
  36.        \QPRO directory.  The \QPRO\USER1 directory is presented
  37.        here only as an example since the structure outlined above
  38.        will be referenced throughout this information sheet.
  39.  
  40.    2.  Run INSTALL.  Your source will be drive A: or B: and your
  41.        destination will be P:\QPRO (assuming the directory
  42.        structure above).  The install will continue as normal,
  43.        copying files and prompting for disks.
  44.  
  45.    3.  Once all files have been installed, the message:

  58.       a.  Monitor Type = It does not matter what type is
  59.           chosen here because each user will specify this for
  60.           their own system when they get into Quattro Pro.

  84.           If you are installing from a monochrome system,
  85.           this prompt will not appear.
  86.       b.  Company Name = Press F2 and enter the company name.
  87.           This cannot be left blank.  If you do not want a
  88.           company name, enter a space.
  89.       c.  Name = Press F2 and enter someone's name.  In most
  90.           cases, this should be the network administrator's
  91.           name.
  92.       d.  Serial # = Press F2 and enter the serial number
  93.           from Disk 1.  If additional user counts need to be
  94.           added, QPUPDATE can be run at a later time to add
  95.           more counts.
  96.       e.  QPRO on Net? = Press F2 and select YES.
  97.       f.  QPRO.NET path = Press F2 and enter P:\QPRO
  98.           (assuming the directory tree above).  The Quattro
  99.           Pro directory MUST be used at this time.    Once
  100.           installed on the network, the QPRO.NET file can be
  101.           moved to a shared directory.
  102.       g.  Edit AUTOEXEC.BAT = Press F2 and select NO.
  103.       h.  User Interface = Press ENTER to select QUATTRO.
  104.           Each user will define the UI they wish to use
  105.           according to the .MP and .RF files located in their
  106.           personal directory.
  107.       i.  Printer = Does not matter.  If there is a common
  108.           network printer, install for that one.
  109.       j.  Graph Quality = Press F2 and select Final.
  110.       k.  Character Set = Press F2 and select Standard
  111.           European.
  112.       l.  Build Font = Does not matter.  The fonts will be
  113.           generated as needed once in the spreadsheet.  If
  114.           you wish to take the time to build some of the
  115.           fonts at this time, press F2 and select the fonts
  116.           to build.

  118.    4.  Move to the \QPRO directory and enter Q.  This will load
  119.        QPRO and create the QPRO.NET file.  Exit Quattro Pro
  120.        (Ctrl-X).

  150.    5.  Copy *.RF to the \QPRO\RESC directory.  The files being
  151.        stored and created in this directory will be used for
  152.        setting up users.
  153.  
  154.    6.  Delete *.RF from the \QPRO directory.
  155.  
  156.    7.  Copy *.W??, *.CLP, and README.* to the \QPRO\DATA
  157.        directory.  These are all the sample and clip art files
  158.        which come with QPro.  Due to user rights, these files
  159.        need to be in a common, shared directory.
  160.  
  161.    8.  Delete *.W??, *.CLP, and README.* from the \QPRO
  162.        directory.
  163.  
  164.    9.  At this point, the menu preference files (.MP) must be
  165.        created.  This is done through the MPMAKE program.  From
  166.        within the \QPRO directory (assuming the directory tree
  167.        outlined above), type:
  168.  
  169.         MPMAKE P:\QPRO\QUATTRO.MU P:\QPRO\RESC
  170.         MPMAKE P:\QPRO\Q1.MU P:\QPRO\RESC
  171.         MPMAKE P:\QPRO\123.MU P:\QPRO\RESC
  172.  
  173.        The result of the commands above will be QUATTRO.MP,
  174.        Q1.MP, and 123.MP.  These files will be stored in
  175.        \QPRO\RESC.
  176.  
  177.   10.  Copy QPRO.NET from the \QPRO directory to \QPRO\FONTS.
  178.        Like PARADOX.NET, the users need full rights to this file.
  179.        Since they also need full rights to use and create fonts,
  180.        the \FONTS directory is a perfect place for the QPRO.NET
  181.        file.  If the network also has Paradox installed, the
  182.        QPRO.NET file can be stored in the same directory as
  183.        PARADOX.NET.  Delete QPRO.NET from the \QPRO directory.

  185.   11.  Execute QPUPDATE.  This will allow you to change the user
  186.        name, add user counts, specify the type of network, and
  187.        update the path to QPRO.NET.
  188.  
  189.       a.  SOM file to update = Press any key to continue.
  190.       b.  Personal Signature = You can change the Network
  191.           Administrator's name.  The Company Name cannot be
  192.           changed using QPUPDATE.  Press F2 to continue.

  216.       c.  User Count = Add additional user counts by entering
  217.           serial numbers.  It is not important to do this at
  218.           this time.  Press F2 to continue.
  219.       d.  Type of network = Enter a 1 for Novell networks.
  220.           Press ENTER.
  221.       e.  Directory for control file = Enter P:\QPRO\FONTS
  222.           and press ENTER.    The directory entered here should
  223.           coincide with the directory where the QPRO.NET file
  224.           was copied to in step 11 above.  Press F3 to save
  225.           the changes and exit QPUPDATE.
  226.  
  227.           If you press F2, rather than F3, to complete the
  228.           update, you will be prompted to backup the serial
  229.           numbers.    Respond NO to this question.  It is not
  230.           necessary to create the backup at this time.

  232.   12.  If user directories have not been defined, do so now.  The
  233.        user subdirectories can be located on the network or on
  234.        the user's local hard drive.  In each user's subdirectory,
  235.        copy the .MP (menu) file associated with the menu tree
  236.        that user will use.  Along with the .MP file, a .RF
  237.        (resource) file needs to be copied to each user's
  238.        subdirectory.  See the table below for the appropriate set
  239.        of .MP and .RF files:

  286.        NOTE:  In this example batch file, a search drive is
  287.        created and appended to the beginning of the user's path.
  288.        Upon exiting QPRO, the drive is deleted.  This will
  289.        alleviate the possibility of creating multiple search
  290.        drives every time the batch file is executed.  The SEARCH
  291.        statement can be added to the user's login script for the
  292.        network through Novell's SYSCON utility.  By doing so, the
  293.        SEARCH commands within the example batch file can be
  294.        omitted.  Defining the SEARCH directory in the user's
  295.        login script is the preferred method.

  297.   14.  Define network rights.  The following list of directories
  298.        shows the suggested rights each user should have for each
  299.        of the directories on the network:
  300.  
  301.        \QPRO (program files)    -> READ, OPEN, SEARCH
  302.  
  303.        \USER# (user resource)    -> All except PARENTAL
  304.  
  305.        \FONTS (shared fonts)    -> All except PARENTAL and DELETE
  306.  
  307.        \DATA (shared data)    -> All except PARENTAL
  308.  
  309. NOTE:  It is possible to also assign a READ-ONLY attribute to the
  310. files in the \QPRO directory for additional security.  This will
  311. ensure the program files cannot be damaged by anyone without
  312. first removing this attribute.    From the \QPRO directory, enter
  313. ATTRIB +R *.*  The files in this directory will be marked as
  314. read-only.

  316. If QPUPDATE is used to add user counts or redirect the QPRO.NET
  317. file, the read-only attribute must be removed from the QPRO.SOM
  318. file.  This file contains the user count information.

  320. USER DEFAULTS

  322. The first time each user accesses the program, they will set
  323. their own default options.  The following options should be set
  324. by each user:

  361.        This option defines a default color palette.  In most
  362.        cases, setting this option is not necessary unless you
  363.        have a special display/monitor setup (eg.
  364.        VGA/Monochrome).

  368.        The user can define up to two unique printers to use and
  369.        save them as defaults.

  373.        If the users will be accessing Paradox files from the
  374.        network, this option must be defined.

  383. To configure the network for printing Quattro Pro graphics
  384. (Graphs and Final Quality output), make sure the following
  385. options are set for each user's default configuration found in
  386. Novell's PRINTCON:

  414. Auto endcap should not be set to Yes if a time out is used in
  415. your capture or spooler statements (/TI).  If you are using a
  416. time out, set Auto endcap to No or put a /na in your capture
  417. statement.
  418.  
  419. If extraneous blank pages are encountered before or after
  420. printing to a network printer, use device Parallel-1 or
  421. Parallel-2.  Do not use the logical device options LPT1 or LPT2.
  422. This device option is defined through:
  423.  
  424.      </><Options><Hardware><Printers><1st/2nd Printer><Device>
  425.  
  426. The logical (LPT) print devices open as DOS file handles, while
  427. the Parallel drivers are written to as devices, without an open
  428. or close.  Quattro Pro writes to the printer in batches for each
  429. graphics print job.  First, it downloads the fonts.  Then, it
  430. selects the page orientation.  Finally, the image is sent.  Each
  431. of these operations requires a DOS File Open & Close cycle if
  432. going to a logical device (eg.    LPT1).    For this reason, it is
  433. *REQUIRED* that Parallel-1 be used on the network; otherwise, the
  434. network may separate these operations as three different print
  435. jobs.  The network must use a 'catch' timeout to separate whole
  436. jobs.  On Novell, set ti=30 or more.  It may need to be tuned.
  437.  
  438. The Parallel-1 device is equivalent to LPT1 and Parallel-2 is
  439. equivalent to LPT2.  If your network printers are installed using
  440. LPT3, LPT4, or LPT5, you must redefine these options for LPT1 or
  441. LPT2 and use Parallel-1 or Parallel-2 device options within
  442. Quattro Pro.
